Low A, CPX and DSL Prospects
Last night I compiled the last levels of the minor leagues in the System. Low A, Complex (Florida and Arizona) and DSL players were added to the System. I'll note here that these levels of the minor leagues are severely discounted due to proximity and risk. So, with that, here are five prospects to watch in the Low A, CPX and DSL levels, and five prospects that rose up in the System with the addition of these new levels.
Lower Minors Top 5:
Henry Davis popped up big time. Big caveat - he had 31 at bats. So while he performed well - his PWR and GAP scores matched expectations, while his BAT tool underperformed, we want to see more at bats. He's probably not on your waiver wire, but he's a name to watch in 2022.
Vaughn Grissom had a solid 2021 across the board - over-performing his scouting grade with a 63 BAT score and living up to expectations in the PWR and RUN categories.
Do I really need to tell you about Julio Rodriguez? JRod was solid across the board in 2021, showcasing his above average hit and power tools with a 52 BAT and 57 PWR scores. If you don't already own him, good luck acquiring him. He's a top 30 dynasty asset by most accounts by now. I took him 21st overall in a dynasty start up this offseason.
Nothing surprising here - Francisco Alvarez was one of the Mets top prospects going into 2021. He lived up to expectations across the board, swinging a 45 BAT with 60 PWR.
Other than those guys, here are some of the biggest risers:
This one is peculiar - Yainer Diaz was graded a 35+ future value by Fangraphs going into 2021. I wonder if his season will put him on the prospect radar going into 2022. Let's stop to acknowledge that his BAT tool is underwhelming at best, and he's a bit old for a guy that spent most of the year at A ball.
Enmanuel Valdez is a 23 year old that kind of ripped his way through High A and AA in 2021, posting 119 and 131 wRC+ at each level, respectively.
